ChatGPT Prompt for a Two Weeks Notice Letter
Use this free prompt to write a short, professional two weeks notice (or 30-day notice) that resigns cleanly and leaves the door open.
Two short paragraphs is all a notice letter needs. ChatGPT's default pads it to four with corporate filler and sometimes adds reasons you shouldn't put in writing. This one keeps it short and clean — nothing a future reference call would regret.
You are an HR consultant. Write a short, professional resignation notice letter. My name: [YOUR NAME] My role: [JOB TITLE] Manager / who it's addressed to: [MANAGER NAME] Notice period: [two weeks / 30 days] Last working day: [DATE] Tone: [warm and professional / neutral and formal] Optional one-line positive note about the job (only if genuine): [LEAVE BLANK IF NONE] Rules: 1. Exactly two short paragraphs. Paragraph 1: state I'm resigning and my last day. Paragraph 2: brief thanks plus an offer to help with the transition. 2. Do NOT include my reason for leaving, grievances, or where I'm going next. 3. Do not put anything in writing I wouldn't want surfaced in a future reference check. 4. Keep it under 120 words total. 5. Banned phrases: it is with a heavy heart, pursue new opportunities, after much deliberation, regret to inform. 6. Add a standard date line and signature block.
How to Use This Prompt
- Fill in the brackets. Leave the "reason for leaving" out entirely — that's intentional.
- Paste into ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini.
- Tell your manager verbally first. Hand over (or email) the letter at the end of that conversation, not before.
- Keep a copy for your records.

Dear Maria,
I'm writing to let you know I'm resigning from my role as Operations Coordinator, with my last working day on June 6, 2026.
Thank you for the support and opportunities over the past two years. I want to make this transition as smooth as possible, so please let me know how I can help hand off my projects and document what's in flight before I go.
Sincerely,
Jordan Lee
Tips to Get Better Results
- Shorter is more professional. A long resignation letter reads as defensive. Two paragraphs signals you've done this with grace.
- Leave out the reason. "Pursuing a new opportunity" adds nothing and "for a higher salary" can sting. Just state the facts.
- Check your notice period in your contract or handbook before you set the last day.
- The conversation matters more than the letter. Tell your manager first, in person or on a call.
